Often but not surprisingly referred to by its misnomer as the Snowball or Dandelion, Stejnar’s Sputnik borrowed its name from the Soviet satellite launched into orbit in 1957. Stejnar a jewelry maker by profession utilized radiating sprays of crystal beads and glistening chrome spokes of intricately placed crystal flowers, elements now synonymous with his designs and hallmarks of the Sputnik that have influenced designers for over half a century.
