Phillip & Kelvin LaVerne

Philip (1907–1987) and Kelvin LaVerne (b. 1937) created some of the most distinctive mid-century furniture of the 20th century through their patented process of casting bronze and pewter over wood forms. Their tables, consoles, and cabinets often featured hand-etched scenes inspired by ancient Chinese art, mythology, and classical European motifs.

This fusion of fine art and functional design placed the LaVernes at the forefront of America’s Studio Craft Movement. Each piece involved months of handwork—acid treatments, patina, and meticulous sculptural finishing, ensuring that no two examples were identical.

Highly collectible today, LaVerne furniture serves as functional art. Their work introduces narrative, history, and rich patina into interiors, seeking depth and unique mid-century craftsmanship.
